Respond to the South Worcestershire Core Strategy

The Parish Council has been asked to repond to consultation documents published by the South Worcesterhire Core Strategy, a partnership formed by Malvern Hills District Council, Worcester City Council and Wychavon District Council.

The core issues concern the major challenge, to locate more housing in this area and establish Worcester as a major hub. The Strategy will replace the existing Local Plan and all options are being considered.

Individuals are invited to respond and further information can be found on this link

There is a meeting at Upton Memorial Hall on 22nd November 2007 at 3.30 pm

We urge you to respond as the deadline for the consultation November / December 2007.

The Preferred Option for the West Midland regional strategy proposes that some 365,600 homes should be built across
the Region between 2006 and 2026 with a major emphasis on using brownfield
sites particularly in the Major Urban Areas of Birmingham, the Black Country,
Coventry and the North Staffordshire conurbation. It is suggested that this is a
workable match to the Government’s requirement to increase house building and
will also ensure that the longer term housing needs of the West Midlands should
be met over the next 20 years.

Development in South Worcestershire should consider exisitng infrastructure and transport. For these reasons, the eastern side of Worcester and the river Severn makes more sense, with access to better rail services and the M5.
